Pixels Pick #6 (The Music, The Appleseed Cast, Bear Colony, Coldplay, Sigur Ros)

Busy as a bee can be. Sometimes routine can be good, to get you organised and into a rhythm. And sometimes routine can be tiring and dishearting as it drags you down with all the tasks you have to complete each week with little rest and return.

Take some time from your routine and relax to these.

Album: Seeing Sounds
Genre: Funk, Hip-Hop

Pharrell William's leads the all mighty N*E*R*D with a new album called 'Seeing Sounds'. It has been a good four years since Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo and Shay Haley have put out a record together.

The lead single from the record, called "Everyone Nose" has recieved mixed reviews and is about girls who use cocaine in club toilets. Williams, who has spoken to many interviewers to promote their upcoming record has stated they made the record "... for people who pledge allegiance to our movement." and are "not doing this for the money".

Genre: Ambient, Progressive, Experimental
Origin: Reykjavík, Iceland
Year: 2008
Myspace: www.myspace.com/sigurros

Pixel Pyro's Rating: 9/10
Sigur Ros have now finally streamed their new album online on their homepage. I am yet to listen to all the tracks in the album order but so far it seems a splendid album with all the classic trademarks of a Sigur Ros' album. Most of you would of already heard Gobbledigook a few weeks ago, as it was released as a free single. The next track on the album is featured as one of the hot tracks in my opinion, it is called "Inní mér syngur vitleysingur". Its upbeat tempo, instrumental use of violins, xylophone, bass, trumpets and uplifting bridge of Hopelandic lyrics makes this track one of the feel good tracks on the album.

In this album the group finishes off with a track titled "All Alright" which comprises of slow piano and Jonsii singing in english for the first time in a Sigur Ros song.

Hot Tracks: "Inní mér syngur vitleysingur", "Suð í eyrum", "Góðan daginn"

Coldplay - Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends

Artist: Coldplay
Album: Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends
Genre: Alternative Rock, Acoustic
Origin: London, England
Year: 2008
Myspace: www.myspace.com/coldplay

Pixel Pyro's Rating: 8.5/10

The kings of 'soft rock' are back with a new record titled "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends". 'Voilet Hill' was originally released as the first single and was given away as a free MP3 download from the Coldplay website.

Chris Martin did originally record a duet with Kylie Minogue, for the new record, called 'Luna', but he decided that the track was 'too sexy' for Viva la Vida and it will appear on their next album in late 2009.

Just remember to always viva la vida (live the life), have a top weekend!

Artist: Bear Colony
Album: We Came Here To Die
Genre: Indie Rock, Electronica
Origin: Arkansas, United States
Year: 2007
Myspace: www.myspace.com/bearcolony

Pixel Pyro's Rating: 8/10

Bear Colony is a music project consisting of many artists and was original created by Vince Griffin after being misdiagnosed with Crohns Disease. Their debut album called 'We Came Here To Die' has many great tracks including the electronic "Hospital Rooms Aren't For Lovers" and the smooth guitar riff and violin track called "Im Not Brave".

This album sounds fresh and Bear Colony have their own distinct sound in all their songs. Their music could be describe as Radiohead meeting Death Cab For Cutie for a few quiet beers on Christmas Eve.

The Music - Strength In Numbers

Album: Strength In Numbers
Genre: Alternative Rock, Indie Rock
Origin: Leeds, England
Year: 2008

Pixel Pyro's Rating: 8.5/10

Strength In Number's is The Music's third studio album and it has been some time coming since Welcome To The North was released in 2004. The long wait has been due to several factors including Rob Harvey's battle with depression.

This album has many unique sides for new and old The Music fans. "Idle" is a mellow smooth track which discusses single life and "The Spike" is an upbeat track which leads into a song called "Drugs". Definately a top album which should please all The Music albums.

Pixels Pick #5 (Sigur Rós, Mew, Anthem In, Pneuma, The Appleseed Cast)

Another selection of random tracks from Pixel Pyro's fire. With Sigur Rós bringing out a new album I had to add a favourite of late. Mew should have a new record coming out soon as they have nearly finished recording and mixing in NY. Enjoy the tracks fellow Pyros.

Artist: Sigur Ros
Track Title:
Gobbeldigook
Genre: Ambient, Progressive, Experimental
Origin: Reykjavík, Iceland
Year: 2008
Myspace: www.myspace.com/sigurros

Pixel Pyro's Rating: 8.5/10

Well well Sigur Ros are back with a new album which will be released in late June called "Með Suð Í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust" which translates in english to "With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly". The first track of the album has been released by the band as a free download on their website. It is called "Gobbeldigook" which is a very tribal upbeat tune from the Icelanders. After only a few listens I am a huge fan of it, and if this is a good example of how the album is going be to be, then I'm sure all Sigur Ros' fans will not be disappointed. However, be aware if you decide to watch the video clip to this track, it fits in very well to the tribal music (hint hint).

Anthem In - Anthem In

Artist: Anthem In
Album: Anthem In
Genre: Indie Rock

Year: 2008

Anthem In is a relatively unknown band from Brooklyn, NYC which comprises of 3 blokes and 1 chick. Their dreamy indie rock tunes seems to have the similiar trend and styles in which Death Cab For Cutie produces. Allen Orr's soothing voice in "Down" is just one example of how they could be compared with top indie band Death Cab For Cutie.

Give these guys a listen, check their myspace and see how under rated they are!

Decided to post one of my favourite albums to date this year. It was released late January and it is one of the most addictive albums I have listed too. The vocals may sound a bit different to their older stuff because the lead singer had to relearn how to use his vocal chords since damaging it. There are many top tracks on here including the poppy electric tune "Hallelujah".

This is one album Pixel Pyro definately reccommends you listen too!

After releasing another 3 Ep's to promote his new album "We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things", Mraz has proven that you dont need to go to university in order to be successful in life. He has created another dynamic album which has the classic Mraz touch to all tracks.

There are two guest artists on the album. James Morrison features in the mellow "Details In The Fabric" and Colbie Caillat as a duet in "Lucky".

Mraz is half man, half magician.

Coldplay - Violet Hill

Artist: Coldplay
CDS: Violet Hill
Genre: Alternative Rock
Origin: London, England
Year: 2008
Myspace: www.myspace.com/coldplay

Pixel Pyro's Rating: 6/10

Coldplay have a new album coming out June 10th and have decided to release their first single to the public as a free MP3 on there homepage. It is called "Violet Hill" and in my opinion it is a bit different to the classic Coldplay sound and it will definately grow on me.
The lyrics definately seem to be about someone protecting a loved one by not sharing the horrific truth about war, religion and politics. And if this is any indication on how juicy the lyrics will be for the whole album, it should prove to be as successful as Parachutes, A Rush Of Blood To The Head and X&Y.

They will be coming out with a new album very very soon and have recorded and played some new tracks to small pub crowds in Iceland. You definately need an acquired taste to really enjoy this type of music, however in saying that, as my musical tastes have developed I have grown to love and enjoy Sigur Ros. Enjoy these tracks including a link to a new song which was played at Sirkus, Reyjavik, and I will post their next album as soon as I get my gritty hands on it.
